About Manne
Manne is a self-taught artist from Pringle Bay, South Africa. His real name is Werner Britz, but he prefers to be called Manne, his family nickname since childhood.
He has a great love for animals and shares his house with two dogs, a cat and a parrot. In his free time he enjoys surfing and spending time in nature.
Abstract Expressionism
He follows the tradition of Abstract Expressionism and is inspired by the works of Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin and Barnett Newman. Abstract Expressionism is an art movement where artists express a specific subject in an abstract manner.
He invites the viewer to engage with his artwork, allowing interpretation and emotion to become a personal experience.
Abstract Painting
Manne’s painting process is free-style and intuitive, without any pre-planning. Each stroke is spontaneous, guided by the desire to convey a specific subject in abstract form.
Using a variety of materials, including oil paint, acrylic paint, glues, pigments, and other mediums, Manne fully embraces the unpredictability of his creative process.
Abstract Photography
During lockdown he started to apply the principles of Abstract Expressionism in photography.
He captures images using vintage camera lenses on modern digital cameras, as it allows him to merge the old film era with modern technology. He owns a diverse collection of vintage camera lenses and prefers the old lenses for their unique character and the creative freedom they offer.
With innovative techniques, Manne bends light into minimal abstract images that push the boundaries of traditional photography.
